Concert dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of Fridtjof Nansen

03 December, 2011

On December 3, 2011 at New York’s Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, under the auspices of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Armenia to the UN, the AGBU New York Special Events Committee hosted a performing arts concert showcasing young talented Armenians from various countries. This event was dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Norwegian humanitarian Fridtjof Nansen.

The works of world renown composers such as Aram Khachaturian, Edvard Grieg, Arno Babajanian, Edward Mirzoyan were performed by musicians, who are also winners of numerous international competitions.

Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, Ambassador Garen Nazarian stated at the meeting that the concert is one of the numerous cultural events and exhibitions organized by the Armenian diplomatic missions and the Armenian Diaspora in many world capitals signifying the respect and veneration of the Armenian people and its government toward the fond memory and name of Nansen, who had issued Nansen Passports to 320000 stateless survivors of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, thereby granting them the opportunity to travel and settle in host countires. Ambassador Nazarian also mentioned that the human memory is a special sieve of history, which preserves with particular gratitude the illuminating names of those, who have devoted their lives to sowing seeds of kindness for the sake of universal values and ideals.”

Present at the Carnegie Hall to support the young talent were members of the Armenian community as well as representatives of a number of diplomatic missions in New York.
