Armenia’s Defense Minister Held Meetings in New York

From March 21-22, in the framework of the working visit to the USA, the delegation headed by the Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan was in New York.

Seyran Ohanyan met UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Angela Kane. At the meeting the Armenian side presented its views on counter-terrorism strategy, conventional arms, Arms Trade Treaty, military expenditures and budget, prevention and elimination of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), and regional disarmament.

During the joint working consultations with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for the Department of Peacekeeping Operations Dmitry Titov and UN Policy and Planning Department officials, the sides discussed a wide range of issues including Armenia’s further participation in UN-led peacekeeping operations and cooperation to enhance humanitarian demining capacities.

The delegation led by Minister Seyran Ohanyan has also met with representatives of the Armenian-American community. During the entire visit the delegation was accompanied by the Permanent Representative of Armenia to UN Garen Nazarian.
