Ambassador Nazarian’s Statement at the 2013 Annual Session of UNICEF Executive Board

21 June, 2013

Annual Session of UNICEF Executive Board was held at United Nations Headquarters from 18 to 21 June, 2013. Statements have been delivered by the President of UNICEF Executive Board and the UNICEF Executive Director, by a number of delegations of the UN Member States, various agencies and civil society organizations.

On June 19, attending the session of the Board on “UNICEF Strategic Plan, 2014-2017”, the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations, Ambassador Garen Nazarian commended the transparent and participatory process of developing the midterm plan, and welcomed the emphasis on equity proposed in the Strategic Plan as a way to the realization of the rights of all children including the most disadvantaged and excluded ones.

Ambassador Nazarian highlighted the UNICEF’s important role in helping to collect and exchange experiences and best practices of countries from the CEE/CIS region and expressed hope that UNICEF activities in Armenia would benefit from experiences and practices of other countries facing similar challenges through employing a comparable mix of implementation strategies. In this context, he further noted the significant progress achieved in Armenia with regard to the inclusive education.

According to Nazarian, Armenia will be one of those countries which will have a new Country Programme of Cooperation (CPD) developed during the timespan of the UNICEF Midterm Strategic Plan and that the new CPD will contribute to the achievement of key results such as equal access to improved education, healthcare and nutrition services.

Expressing his Government’s support to the Strategic Plan, 2014-2017 Ambassador Nazarian has stated that Armenia looks forward to furthering the successful partnership and vibrant collaboration with the UNICEF.
