During the first half of August, special events were held at the UN Headquarters to mark the International Youth Day celebrated every year on August 12. Hosted by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his Special Envoy on Youth Ahmad Alhendawi the “Uniting for Youth: A Global Interactive Dialogue on Youth” conference also featured a panel discussion involving high-ranking UN officials (the Executive Director of UNFPA, the acting head of UN Women, UNDP Regional Director for Arab States, etc) with the participation of youth representatives from around the world including the interns of the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the UN. The Mission interns had an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international issues with other young leaders.

Secretary-General in his remarks stressed the importance of empowering youth to achieve sustainable development in the world noting that youth development is one of the main priorities in his Five-Year Action Plan. Youth representatives who were not able to attend the event have been provided an opportunity to ask questions and express their concerns to the UN Chief via web conference.

The youth dialogue continued with another conference consisting of interactive panel discussions on youth migration and development which was co-organized by the United Nations Secretariat (DESA), the International Labour Office (ILO), and the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund Secretariat (MDG-F). It also featured several video screenings about youth migration in different parts of the world focusing on youth development and policy implementation from youth perspectives.

The Permanent Mission of Armenia to the United Nations, annually, hosts summer internship programs designed for Diaspora students studying in the different universities who are in their senior year of study. The program objective is to present Armenia’s priorities in the UN, the activities of Armenia’s delegations, the UN projects implemented in Armenia and help interns gaining an overview of the UN system, its structure and operations and procedures.
