Ambassador Nazarian addressed Security Council

13 February, 2014

On February 12, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations participated at the Security Council debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict. In his statement he referred to the military rhetoric of the Azerbaijani leadership, as well as violations of the ceasefire regime and provocations by Azerbaijan along the Nagorno Karabakh Line of Contact and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border.

Ambassador Nazarian shared his concern regarding the humanitarian impact of use of force and further that as a result of these unacceptable policies and practices, the situation of civilians living near borders and lines of contact are being further compounded. Armenia’s envoy to the UN has stressed that during the previous debates on this subject, he raised the concerns regarding the broader impact of snipers on civilian population and facilities and that the violent incidents affecting the life of civilians must be ceased immediately. He concluded by mentioning that Armenia advocates the need to end all violence and strongly believes that fundamental and lasting solutions to conflicts can only be achieved through peaceful means, based on the principles of international law.
