The members of the Executive Boards of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) and the World Food Programme (WFP) met for a day of interactive discussions with the heads of the agencies.

In the morning, they discussed how the UN is working together in fragile contexts and the multiple challenges that need to be overcome to address the drivers and consequences of fragility. The afternoon’s session was devoted to how the development agencies can leverage big data in support of country-led efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The meeting included high-level representatives from the United Nations, including Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Jan Eliasson. Several guest speakers shared presentations, with topics including financing peacebuilding to overcome fragility in the least developed countries; building resilience in contexts where there are protracted crises; and solving public problems using data.
