UNICEF Panel Discussion on Inclusive Education

A high level panel discussion on inclusive education for children with disabilities organized by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) took place at the United Nations Headquarter in New York on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Chaired by the President of UNICEF Executive Board and welcomed by the UNICEF Executive Director the event featured the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of Montenegro and Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN as panelists.

In his remarks accompanied by the power point presentation, Ambassador Garen Nazarian presented Armenia’s path, current state of affairs, challenges and achievements, as well as upcoming projects and the government's legislative initiatives involving inclusive education for children with disabilities. He particularly noted that the progress achieved in this field in his country was made possible through joint efforts and productive cooperation by the Armenian Ministry of Education and Science, UNICEF, donor countries and local and international NGOs. The event was attended by the UN member states ambassadors and their delegations, the representatives of UN entities and as well as by a large number of civil society groups and children’s rights advocates.
