Ambassador Nazarian Delivered Remarks in San Francisco

On March 2, 2013, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Garen Nazarian participated in Bay Area ANC Annual Banquet in San Francisco.

Delivering remarks on Diplomat’s Day, Ambassador Nazarian highlighted the symbolism of the day – as the representative of Armenia to the United Nations being in San Francisco city where the UN Charter was signed in 1945. Also noting that since Armenia’s admission to the UN on March 2, 1992, exactly twenty one years ago, the country has always been resolutely committed to the purposes and principles of the Organization. According to the Ambassador, Armenia continues to be actively involved in this universal intergovernmental organization and contributes to the promotion of international peace and security, democratic values, the rule of law and human rights.
Garen Nazarian underlined the efforts by Armenia towards the prevention of genocide, has spoken about the international recognition of the Armenian genocide and the consequences of the Sumgait tragedy. In this context, he specifically drew the attention to the continuing dangerous policy of Armenophobia in Azerbaijan.
Ambassador Nazarian stated that Armenia's President and Government attach great importance to the Armenia-Diaspora collaboration and unity highlighting the role of the Armenian churches, organizations, institutions, mass media, advocacy groups, as well as that of professionals and individuals as an essential and effective mobilization factors.

Ambassador has also spoken about Armenia’s engagement in this universal intergovernmental Organization and mentioned that the Permanent Mission of Armenia in New York has entered into a partnership with the diaspora organizations and the United Nations entities to address the social, cultural and sustainable development issues on the UN agenda.
