UN Member States rally for MDG Momentum

On April 12, the UN Department of Public Information organized “MDG Momentum 1000 Days of Action” event to mark the deadline until the target date for the UN Millennium Goals. In his remarks the UN Secretary-General highlighted the need to expedite efforts targeting MDGs at national levels to completely eliminate world poverty.

The event was attended by representatives of international media, NGOs, UN entities and Member States including Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Garen Nazarian.

The following countries supported this initiative: Australia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Georgia, Germany, Monaco, Republic of Korea, Rwanda, Senegal, Sweden, Uganda, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America and Armenia. The latter welcomed the MDG Momentum – 1000 Days of Action initiative, launched by the Secretary-General and the Co-Chairs of the MGD Advocacy Group and emphasized the need for ensuring sustainable economic growth through reliance on competition, innovation, and equal opportunity for all.
