Mr. Chair,

We warmly welcome the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Her Excellency Madam Michelle Bachelet and thank her for comprehensive presentation.

We appreciate that the report of the High Commissioner reflects continuous strong engagement of Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) with various stakeholders and the support provided to the Member States as well as to the Human Rights Council and its mechanisms in order to uphold and promote human rights and fundamental freedoms globally.

Human rights are at the core of Armenia’s reform agenda, aimed at making irreversible the significant national progress in the fields of democracy and protection of human rights since the transformative changes of May 2018.

As a candidate country to the Human Rights Council for the term of 2020-2022 Armenia has pledged to enhance and strengthen the mechanisms and partnerships aiming at the political, social and economic empowerment of women and youth, foster cooperation, aimed at the prevention of genocide and other mass atrocities, promote concept of tolerance, combat hate speech and hate crimes, further strengthen refugee protection mechanisms.

Let me assure Madam High Commissioner that Armenia stands ready to further advance close cooperation with your Office, including here in New York as well as with the UN treaty bodies and mechanisms, special rapporteurs and independent experts and to contribute to the promotion of human rights internationally.

I thank you.
