Distinguished Vice-President of ECOSOC

Excellencies,

At the outset, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Executive Secretaries of the Regional Commissions, as well as the Chairs of the Functional Commissions and Expert Bodies, for their insightful presentations.

A decade into the 2030 Agenda, significant challenges persist in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The gaps in progress highlight the need for stronger coordination, enhanced cooperation, and renewed commitment to accelerate implementation efforts. The United Nations Economic and Social Council plays a crucial role in coordinating and guiding the United Nations development system to ensure the effective delivery of its mandate and to address persistent global challenges in a coherent and integrated manner.

Armenia welcomes the productive cooperation established with UNECE and UNESCAP in fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth, attracting investment, and driving innovation. The contributions of these Regional Commissions through policy and regulatory expertise, the exchange of best practices, technical assistance, and capacity-building have significantly advanced our national development priorities. In particular, their support has been instrumental in promoting green and digital transformations, enhancing connectivity, and facilitating economic integration.

We also recognize the essential coordinating and policy-guiding role of ECOSOC’s functional commissions, which provide expertise across a broad range of critical issues.

Distinguished colleagues,

Last year, the international community reaffirmed its commitment to renewed and concerted action in tackling both ongoing and emerging global challenges and accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through the adoption of the Pact for the Future. This landmark commitment underscores the need for strengthened multilateral cooperation, innovative solutions, and inclusive approaches to ensure tangible progress across all dimensions of sustainable development.

In this regard, ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, with their extensive expertise and broad, inclusive engagement, are uniquely positioned to translate the objectives outlined in the Pact for the Future into concrete actions. Their role is critical in fostering integrated, cross-sectoral strategies that leverage technological advancements for the benefit of humanity, uphold and advance human rights, promote gender equality, and drive sustainable and equitable development for all.

Furthermore, Armenia emphasizes the fundamental role of the UN Regional Commissions in fostering sustainable progress at both regional and national levels. These commissions serve as critical platforms for facilitating economic integration and trade cooperation, enhancing transport and digital connectivity, and ensuring sustainable energy transition. Greater coordination and proactive engagement of the Regional Commissions in UN programmatic activities at the country level can significantly enhance the ability of states to adopt innovative, tailored solutions for long-term and inclusive development, in support of national efforts to implement the SDGs effectively and adapt to evolving socio-economic and environmental challenges.

In conclusion, Armenia reaffirms its strong commitment to strengthening global partnerships and fostering collaboration among all stakeholders, including through our membership in ECOSOC to reinforce the multilateral system and drive meaningful and lasting progress toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

I thank you.
