Statement by Ms. Julieta Tavakalyan, Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission at the ECOSOC Operational Activities Segment: Dialogue with the DSG

Distinguished Deputy Secretary-General,

I would like to express appreciation for the insights of the report on the Development Coordination Office, showcasing the crucial role of the UN Development System in accelerating the SDG implementation at the country level.

Armenia recognizes the pivotal role of the RC system in better coordinating the activities of the UN country teams, ensuring improvement in accountability and transparency, as well as advancing the operational efficiency and needs-based programmatic activities of the UN.

We believe that Resident Coordinators are also uniquely positioned to support governments in fostering inclusive engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, facilitating coordinated action, and mobilizing the necessary resources to accelerate progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Currently the Government of Armenia in close coordination and cooperation with the RC Office is elaborating its second Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, carried out through an inclusive and participatory approach, with the objective of having an action-oriented and fit-for-purpose document. Taking this opportunity, we would like to commend the effective work of the RC in ensuring that the priorities identified within the UNSDCF are coherent, complementary, and strategically aligned with our national priorities and needs.

Mr. Chair,

The reform in the funding model of the RC system remains of crucial importance to address the challenges deriving from the lack of adequate, sustainable and predictable funding. In the light of the Secretary-General’s UN80 initiative, we would like to underline that the efforts of enhancing the overall efficiency, coherence, and responsiveness of the UNDS must not come at the expense of a proper and effective delivery of its programmatic assistance.

In conclusion let me reiterate Armenia’s readiness to continue to advocate for leveraging the strengths and expertise of the UN entities in support of the implementation of the Agenda 2030.
