05 September, 2014

Convening its 2014 second regular session at the UN HQ, the Executive Board heard statements from a number of Member States including Armenia. In his remarks, Ambassador Zohrab Mnatsakanyan recognized the significant contribution by UNDP and their sister agencies to the process of shaping the post-2015 development agenda, highlighted the importance of the year 2014 for UNDP as the latter started to implement its 2014-2017 Strategic Plan trying to align programs accordingly. He also touched upon financial resources of the organization and the diversification of its resource base.

Recognizing the important role of UNDP as the head of the Resident Coordinator System and the United Nations Development Group, Ambassador Mnatsakanyan appreciated Armenia’s relationship of over 20 years with UNDP and noted the more than 20 joint projects currently being implemented in Armenia. He further pointed out that the next cycle of the Country Program should derive from a balanced combination of findings in Assessment of Development Results (ADR), Armenia’s new national priorities based on Government program and strategies and results of multi-stakeholder consultations, and carefully tailored to the post-2015 sustainable development goals.

He also welcomed the decision of UNDP’s Administrator to visit Armenia at the end of the month and expressed his government’s determination to further the partnership with the agency emphasizing on the significance of strengthening direct links between the UNDP’s country office and its headquarter in New York.

During the meetings on the margins of the current session of the Executive Board, the UN Population Fund highly valued Armenia’s efforts in effectively identifying and tackling the issues and challenges the nation faces.
