The Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN was elected as Vice-President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council

On July 25 the UN Economic and Social Council elected the President and three Vice-Presidents for its 2020 Session.

The Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN Mr. Mher Margaryan was elected as Vice-President of the ECOSOC from Eastern European States.

ECOSOC, as one of the main organs of the United Nations, is responsible for coordinating the economic, social, environmental and related work of the specialized agencies, funds and programmes, the functional commissions and the regional commissions of the United Nations. It also serves as the central forum for follow-up on actions aimed at the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

ECOSOC has 54 members. Armenia became a member in January 2019 for the term 2019-2021.
