Reception on the 28th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia at the UN Headquarters

On September 10 the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the United Nations organized a reception at the UN Headquarters to mark the 28th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia.

The reception was attended by a large number of permanent representatives of the UN member states, diplomats and UN Secretariat officials, as well as the members of Armenian community of New-York.
Addressing the audience the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, Ambassador Mher Margaryan reflected on the centuries-old history and cultural heritage of Armenia, also highlighting the current progress in strengthening democratic institutions, ensuring rule of law and protecting human rights. He presented Armenia’s contribution to the promotion of international peace and security, sustainable development, advancement of women and youth, touching upon the cooperation with the United Nations in implementing Armenia’s reform agenda.

During the evening Armenian traditional dances were performed by young artists of the New York based Shushi Dance Ensemble. A variety of Armenian produced brandies, wine and chocolate was served during the evening.
The participants of the event viewed the Armenian Rugs Exhibition entitled “Armenian Treasures: Antiques in the Making” on display at the UN Headquarters, provided by the Megerian Carpets.
