H.E. Mr. Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia, ECOSOC Vice-Chair, met with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, together with fellow members of the Economic and Social Council Bureau. The exchange focused on the Council’s work and its growing relevance in today’s complex global environment, particularly as ECOSOC marks its 80th anniversary.

Mr. Hovhannisyan emphasized the importance of effective coordination that delivers concrete results on the ground, the role of biodiversity in advancing sustainable development, and the specific needs of countries in special situations, including landlocked countries and middle-income countries.

Issues on further strengthening of ECOSOC's direction-setting role and better mobilisation of the UN system through greater coherence, accountability and impact, in support of Member States’ priorities have been discussed.
