Remarks by H.E. Mher Margaryan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN at the Private Viewing of the ARMENIA! Exhibition and Cocktail Reception

Colleagues,
Dear friends,

It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to this evening’s reception and viewing of the Armenia! Exhibition here at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is an honor to showcase Armenia’s cultural heritage to our friends and colleagues from the United Nations.

I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to share this memorable occasion with you. Tonight’s gathering represents a valuable cultural exchange, during which I invite you to connect with Armenian heritage and celebrate our cross-cultural appreciation for art together.

I believe that sharing this exhibition with you also symbolizes the multicultural fabric on which the United Nations is grounded.

The exhibition that we will view later on, incorporates Armenian artwork and artifacts from the Middle Ages, reflecting the cultural legacy and spiritual values of our nation over the centuries.

As the Prime Minister of Armenia mentioned during his visit to the Museum in September, the exhibition is a “dream come true” for many.

A product of years of development and collaboration, this endeavor brings Armenians’ artistic and cultural traditions into a global context. It provides a unique opportunity for us to showcase our history through art, while creating a space for visitors from across the world to connect with Armenians’ centuries-old artifacts, artwork and heritage within this world-renowned institution.

I would like to recognize and express my gratitude to the individuals and organizations who have contributed to make this exhibition possible, the lenders of the works and artifacts, including the History Museum of Armenia, the Yerevan Matendaran, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, and the Holy See of Cilicia, the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon, among many others.

I want to recognize and thank for their presence Mr. Griffith Mann, the Curator in Charge of the Department of Medieval Art and The Cloisters and Helen Evans the curator of Armenia! Exhibition. Helen, we are fortunate to be in the presence of your phenomenal expertise and look forward to hearing from you this evening.

I give special thanks to the Nazarian Family Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Nazar Nazaryan and Seta Nazaryan, who have been great supporters of the exhibition and have generously contributed to tonight’s event.

I want to thank Vartan Gregorian, President of Carnegie Corporation of New York for his wisdom and encouragement of today’s function, whose leadership in different fields of life has been inspirational to so many.

I want to express my wholehearted gratitude to Aso Tavitian, President of the Tavitian Foundation, a philanthropist, true mentor and friend for his longstanding support of Armenia, who has given so much to education and arts.
With this, I want to invite Mr. Tavitian to share his insights and wish all of you an enjoyable evening.
